Standard Lens – A mono-focal lens. This means it provides one point of focus.
If it is focused at distance- it provides excellent vision at distance but would necessitate glasses for reading.
If focused at near -one would see to read well but need glasses for distance.
If focused at intermediate - one would see well from computer to about 10 feet but would want glasses for both reading and distance for clear vision.
Some people will want both eyes the same and wear glasses for reading, which is a
common choice.
Standard lenses can be mixed and matched for one eye seeing distance and one eye seeing near or intermediate hence the terms “MONOVISION” and “BLENDED VISION” respectively. These choices are very important and personal and are discussed on your office visit.
Some people are good candidates for these choices especially if MONOVISION has been used with contact lens wear. It is ideal to simulate with a contact lens trial if possible, so you are sure you can tolerate its effect, but if the cataracts are developed this may not be helpful.
