About Our Practice

Our goal is to provide excellent medical and surgical eye care. Dr. Mellgren has been in solo practice in North County San Diego for 20 years. Dr. Michael Long joined the team, July 2008 and provides optometric care as well as full eye examinations. Now we have an optical shop and provide all ranges of eye wear. Our staff of caring and competent individuals goes the second mile to provide individualized eye care. Our office has excellent equipment to facilitate in diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Mellgren specializes in cataracts, glaucoma and corneal surgery. She is offering all deluxe lenses in cataract surgery to provide the best vision without glasses, the corneal transplant technique (DSEK) that is suturless and reduces post operative astigmatism, and a variety of glaucoma surgeries, the latest (Canaloplasty) which although very new promises a safer and more physiologic glaucoma solution. Refractive surgeries offered in our office include, INTACS, Near Vision CK and Refractive Lensectomy. In addition Dr. Mellgren has a great interest in lifestyle effects on the eye as well as the whole body. Monthly a plant based cooking/health class is available and many topics related to lifestyle choices and health/disease issues are presented.

In considering the miracle of the eye, Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “Who would think that a space so small, could contain the images of the universe?” To preserving this miracle our office is dedicated.

The eye is very specialized but a part of the whole body.  Of course the health of the body determines the health of the eye and Dr. Mellgren has a personal and deep interest in whole body health.  She works with her interested staff members and every month holds a plant based cooking class that presents and shares recipes and covers health issues related to lifestyle.  The links in this web site will help the reader find excellent sources to further their health and lifestyle practices.  The matters related directly to health of the eye will be mentioned here as well as the latest surgeries when lifestyle and medical therapy are no longer effective.
