Refractive Surgery

Dr. Mellgren philosophy on refractive surgery is somewhat different from the common laser surgery offered today.  Lasik and its related techniques are without question very successful for many people; however results are not 100%. 

All people who undergo this procedure must sign a consent form which states the possible complications and sometimes years later either due to the eye changing or other factors the result may not last as desired. Lasik and PRK are techniques which remove corneal tissue.  For these and other unstated reasons Dr. Mellgren prefers to refer people interested in these techniques to her colleagues who specialize in them.  She prefers reversible and corneal tissue sparing techniques as follows:I
