Pterygium |

Pterygium occurs when the conjunctiva grows up onto the cornea. It is usually in the exposed part of the conjunctiva related to sun exposure and occurs more frequently the closer one is to the equator. The condition can flare up with inflammation and be very uncomfortable or it can regress and be very tolerable. Insurance companies cover pterygium surgery when it interfers with vision which is usually by causing astigmatism or it large enough occluding the visual axis.|
